top kpop performances of may 2021

check out our favorite performances from kpop groups and solos released this month

To create our list of the best performances of the month, we watched more than 100 videos. For songs where there were both music videos and live stages, we did not focus on one particular video but the overall series of performances.

On another note, we decided not to include performances from Kingdom Legendary War in our countdown. One reason is that these performances have very large budgets and are more like concert performances than the other types of stages we were considering. Since we don’t watch every concert that takes place every month to include these kinds of performances, we decided it wasn’t fair to include them. We also don’t want to contribute to a lot of the ugly fan wars that we’re seeing stemming from this show by weighing in on whose performances we liked best.

Now that we explained our methods, let’s get into the countdown:

10. Oh Mama by Bling Bling

Bling Bling brings the drama in this high-energy dance, and the way the long skirts of their costumes double as props take the choreo to the next level.

9. First by EVERGLOW

EVERGLOW‘s performance shifts from aggressive to sexy and back again much like the single that weaves classical music with kpop seamlessly.

8. Hot Sauce by NCT Dream

We can’t get enough of the clever choreo where the boys of NCT Dream clap, shake on the hot sauce and stir things up.

7. Let Me Know by PIXY

PIXY proves once again that they’re a fourth-gen group to watch with imaginative choreography that includes lifts and floorwork.

6. Black Mirror by ONEUS

ONEUS brings great visuals and funky disco moves to life in the performance for Black Mirror and show that there’s no style of music or dance that they can’t master.

5. Easy by WJSN: The Black

WJSN: The Black has pulled off one of the most alluring girl group dances to be staged so far this year, but complex arm movements and inventive staging give the performance depth that goes far beyond sex appeal.

4. Fever by ENHYPEN

Fever’s choreo is sultry and sleek, and the arm movements suggesting the boys of ENHYPEN are feeling the heat perfectly fit the theme of the song.

3. The Beginning of Spring by E’LAST U

The Beginning of Spring goes beyond your typical kpop performance. Through graceful, expressive choreography, this stage ascends to the realm of modern dance.

2. Son of Beast by TO1

TO1 shows off synchronized perfection each and every time they perform this stage, and the choreography has a lot of eye-popping moments like that sequential backbend.

1. Advice by Taemin

If we have to bid a temporary goodbye to Taemin, Advice was the perfect sendoff. Showing off a style, no one else can match, Taemin makes complex choreography look effortless, and every gesture is perfectly matched with the mood and spirit of the track.
