top 10 kpop songs of the week: 2.28.21 to 3.6.21

check out our 10 favorite songs released by kpop groups, kbands and solos this week

#10 – Gemini & Jay Park – Trip

Like the first line of the song suggests, this Gemini and Jay Park collab feels light and easy like a summer night at the start but when you get to that repetitive chorus, you get caught up in something much bigger and more complex, much like a love affair that draws you in before you know it.

#9 – IKON – Why Why Why

IKON‘s voices harmonize with one another perfectly in this guitar-driven track that brings to mind the western hit makers of the early oughts. And that low-fi before the chorus kicks in is an audio masterpiece.

#8 – Park Jihoon – Call U Up ft. Lee Hi

Park Jihoon and Lee Hi‘s collab comes off fun and flirty like a hook-up overture but lyrics like “I want to embroider you on my heart” give it a sweet depth that had us grinning all week.

#7 – VERIVERY – Get Away

The title track off VERIVERY‘s new release shows off that spooky sound that makes them unique among 4th gen kpop groups, and the power that kicks in with the chorus leaves us shook with every listen.

#6 – ATEEZ – Take Me Home

Songs with eighties throwback spirit aren’t uncommon in kpop but rarely does a group manage to bring that retro sound with the same finesse as ATEEZ does in this b-side. The song has just enough production bells and whistles to add spice without overpowering the vocals and rap, showing just what these boys are capable of.

#5 – VERIVERY – Numbness

Drifting hauntingly through the verses and then coming on full-force drama in the chorus, this b-side shows off VERIVERY‘s depth and proves that they’re one to watch among the 4th gen up-and-comers.

#4 – Rain + Jackson Wang – Magnetic

RAIN‘s lofty angelic highs and Jackson’s sultry smoky lows combine to make this R&B track just what the title claims: absolutely, positively magnetic.

#3 – Young K & Park Moonchi – What a Wonderful Word

If you can’t find a reason to smile, click on this track and let Young K‘s gorgeous voice and Park Moonchi‘s boppy accompaniment give you one.

#2 – ELDON – Law

A funky bass guides this title track off ELDON‘s mini album that shows off his vocal talents. Expert production touches like spoken words and floaty improv elevate it above your average R&B offering.

#1 – Demian – Love% Ft. Dawn

We’ve been waiting for people to stop sleeping on Demian since his debut. Here’s hoping that this sexy, broody track questioning the nature of love will finally do the trick. It’s original, groove-worthy and enhanced by the unique rap stylings of Dawn.
