top 10 kpop songs of the week: 1.17.21 to 1.23.21

check out our 10 favorite kpop songs released this week

While ‘No Diggity‘ was the streaming objective for the week, Incomplete was the ONEUS song we had on repeat. The song perfectly presents RAVN and Leedo‘s ability to spit commanding verses and the powerful vocals of Seoho and Keonhee.

What can we say? CRAVITY had us at VROOM VROOM VROOM VROOM VROOM SKRRT! This song just begs to test the speakers in your car–windows down, foot on the gas.

We can’t resist the urge to tell you how very good BerryGood’s new song is. In a week where much of what we were listening to explored difficult themes, this song was the floaty-fun breath of fresh air we needed.

The combination of Jinho‘s cello, Hyunsang‘s angelic vocals and the purr of I’ll’s backing is the recipe for frisson. Although the song serves as the intro for the new album, its haunting quality makes it capable of standing on its own as a masterpiece.

There’s no way I can capture the flawlessness of this song better than lucy did with her review of EPIK HIGH IS HERE this week. I suggest you put the song on repeat and check out their take.

Yes, this is in Japanese but we have to broaden the criteria because this song simply can’t be left out. Not with how Baekhyun‘s shifting between floating falsetto and powerful belted vocals perfectly captures someone hopelessly surrendering to desire.

Gwangil Jo

This song is an audio nightmare, but I mean that as a compliment. For three minutes, Gwangil Jo‘s impressive rap skills take us on a terrifying descent into madness.

Susan‘s entire new EP is required listening for the week but the the title track dedicated to the Greek god of love best showcases the bluesy warmth of her voice and the masterful production of the mini album.

Once again, I have to defer to lucy when it comes to explaining why this song is a hip hop tour de force but this track featuring BI of iKON was truly second only to one.

Samples of news footage, I’ll and Hyunsang‘s gorgeous voices, Youngso‘s virtuoso finger-style guitar playing and the soaring sounds of Jinho‘s cello create layers as complex and moving as love itself in our favorite song of the week.
